  • Inhabit film showing and Q & A with director Costa Boutsikaris

Inhabit film showing and Q & A with director Costa Boutsikaris

Inhabit explores the many environmental issues facing us today and examines solutions that are being applied using the ecological design process called ‘Permaculture’.

The film presents a vast array of projects, concepts, and people, and it translates the diversity of permaculture into something that can be understood by an equally diverse audience. For those familiar, it will be a call to action and a glimpse into what’s possible – what kind of projects and solutions are already underway. For those unfamiliar, it will be an introduction to a new way of being and a new way of relating to the Earth. For everyone, it will be a reminder that humans are capable of being planetary healing forces.

  • Free Recycle Swap Shop

    Free Recycle Swap Shop

If you have stuff to bring, it needs to arrive before 12pm. You can browse and take stuff any time from 10:00-13:00.

You CAN bring electricals if you know they work – we can PAT test them at this event.

You DO NOT need to bring stuff, we’re very happy for people to come and just take stuff away.

What is a ‘recycle swap shop’?

Many of us have things in our homes which we no longer want or use, but we feel are too good to throw away. These things sit around, sometimes for years, waiting for us to find the right person to give them to, and eventually they may end up being thrown in the bin.

You can bring your items to the hall and leave them there for others to take away.
At the same time, you can look around and see if there is anything you’d like to take away yourself!
You are welcome to only bring stuff, or to only take stuff, or to just come along and browse and have some free refreshments and a chat.
Anything left over will be disposed of through charity shops or recycling, as appropriate.
Takers get things they want for free!
We all end up with a chance to meet others for a morning chat, and we put less rubbish in land-fill, saving both the environment and tax-payers money.

    A few points to note:

Please bring items before 12pm, so there’s time for people to take them.
All items MUST be 100% free and must be from domestic (not commercial) sources.
Please try to bring things as early as possible.
If you have bulky items, like bikes or furniture, then please don’t bring these to the swap shop.
    Don’t bring anything illegal!
Don’t bring anything dangerous (no sharp knives, weapons, etc)
    No pets or livestock.
No rubbish. Please don’t bring anything that really is no good to anyone. The Swap Shop is run a small group of local people who volunteer their time to organise these events and we don’t want to end up with a whole room full of rubbish to take to the dump!

  • A meeting to discuss the establishment of a Sustainable Transport Forum for Hastings

HVA in partnership with the Hastings Greenway Group and Hastings Urban Bikes are holding an exploratory meeting with local groups to discuss the possibility of establishing a Sustainable Transport Forum in Hastings to share information, provide a structured way to engage with Local Authorities at a Borough and County level, and build stronger links between groups.

  • Food packaging campaign meeting

    Food packaging campaign meeting

We are currently in the planning stages of developing a campaign to support and encourage local takeaway food outlets to make the transition to sustainable packaging.

After speaking to businesses who’ve already made the transition, it was relatively easy and cost effective. Let’s make Hastings stand out as a green flagship town! If you’d like to be involved please come along or email for more info.
